Aloe Barberae
A striking, sculptured tree aloe, Aloe barberae makes for an excellent focal point in the garden. It is easily identified by its grey, smooth bark, green recurved leaves and rose-pink flowers, which can be enjoyed during the winter season. As Africa's largest Aloe, reaching heights of up to 15m, it is well deserving of the description, Tree Aloe. Traditionally known as Aloe bainesii, the name barberae has taken precedence, named after one of South Africa's premier plant collectors, Mary Elizabeth Barber. It is known as the Boomaalwyn in Afrikaans and inkalane endulu in Zulu, meaning 'the big one'.
These low maintenance Aloes make for a striking garden feature, particularity in the winter flowering phase. With a trunk diameter reaching up to 9' this is a beautiful and impressive plant to enhance one's garden.
Cape Contours has access to a supply of magnificent, cultivated Aloe barbarae, which range in size from 0.5m to approximately 9m.
A selection of specimen plants of varying sizes have been photographed, from which clients may select. This portfolio of aloe pictures can be forwarded by email to interested persons on request.
