Howick Close
Located in Bellville, Western Cape, OVP Landscape Architects were appointed to do the design for this project. We installed the landscape according to the partner’s design and specifications.
An informal indigenous water-wise planting palette was implemented on this project. The gabions and irrigation system was also installed under our scope of works.
Horfells (Durbanville blue granite) rock is blue-grey in colour. Grey is a fantastic dark neutral colour backdrop for plants. The blue/grey crock colour adds depth to the landscape and compliments the blue/grey colour of the galvanised weld mesh baskets that were used to contain the rock. Horfells rock is extremely hard wearing and quite difficult to work with. It does not break on fault lines and so each rock has jagged corners which either need to be removed by working them by hand or the unique corners/shapes need to be fitted into the recesses created by neighbouring rocks, much like a jigsaw puzzle. This makes the installation of a Hornfells rock wall labour intensive and hence more expensive than sandstone river boulders.
